En annan fin grej jag hittat på Tradera. Vore det min storlek skulle jag slå till… Men eftersom jag inte har ändrat något mönster att passa uppåt i storlek så låter jag bli… Men frestelsen är stor att köpa mönstret och bara sy upp kjol och topp. Se om det är någon som vill ha dom av vänner o bekanta. Så fint mönster.. Så fint med 2 delar som man kan variera.. Och FICKORNA! …*suck*

Here are some pictures of today’s outfit. I just had to show off my newly bought hat .

Everything except the skirt and the shoes are secondhand finds.. The last picture shows a detail of my silk blouse which have a lovely handmade lace decoration, I think it’s called-English embroidery. Please correct me if there is a better name for it! I love to learn about these things!

En till hatt inhandlad på Tradera. Jag kunde inte låta bli! Jag vet- Jag skulle ju kunna göra en helt engen variant på denna, men sålänge vintage hattarna kostar hälften av vad råmaterialet till en nyskapad hatt gör så kommer mitt beroende fortsätta.

Hattar från 30 talet och framåt  50-talet har en sån stark lockelse för mig, det är lite som sirensång. Jag lockas i fördärvet. Se bara vilken härlig form den har på brättet!

Vad påminner det er om? Som en kvinnlig Robin Hood?

Jag är så uppspelt! Skall nu bara masa mig ner till tobaksaffären för att hämta paketet! Genom slask och halka segrar denna förortshjältinna med stil och mode som vapen.

I have bought yet another hat on an Internet auction site called Tradera here in Sweden.I couldn’t resist. And although I will be making my own hats more and more now, the beauty of the old original hats from the 30s 40s 50s has an allure that is to me, irresistible. As long as they cost half the price of the raw material for a hat- I will keep on buying them.

I love these angular shaped hats, and I can’t wait to try it on! I think the shape of this hat reminds me a little of the classic Robin Hood hat…Although the one I have bought is brown an the stylized felt feather is angled to the front and not to the back. With the mail today I got an advice(?) - the notice from our small post office that I had a package to collect. So I am going for a long walk-expedition with my dog through the terrible slippery and slushy streets. Fashion heroine of this suburb..

Idag fyller min kära svärmor år! Ett stort grattis till henne! Vi är så väldigt lika hon och jag. Kreativa, glada och snälla! För ungefär en vecka sedan lärde hon mig hur man quiltar hexagoner och hur man kan sätta ihop dessa till blommor. Mönstret kallas “grandmother’s flowergarden”.  Ett sammanträffande eller en ödets nyck gjorde att bara några dagar senare så dog min mormor.

Igår när jag satt i vårat tysta hus och tänkte på mormor så kom jag att tänka på hur mycket hon älskade våren. Hon älskade liljekonvaljer syrener och rosor.

Det var liksom dags för min mormors blomsterträdgård att börja växa under min nål.

Today is the birthday of my mother in law. I realy feel she is a kindred spirit, she is so creative and such a happy and kind person. Just about a week ago she taught me how to quilt hexagons and put them toghether as flowers in  a pattern called grandmothers flowergarden.  As a touch of fate a few days later my grandmother passed away.

Yesterday when I was sitting alone in my very quiet house I was remembering things about my grandmother. How she loved spring. She loved lilacs and lilies of the valley and roses.

I took my quilting pouch out and started to sew… It was time for my grandmothers flowergarden to start blooming under my needle.

Varje blomma tar mig ungefär en timme med alla arbetsmoment. Men jag blir snabbare och snabbare…

Each flower takes me about an hour. But I am getting faster.

Tack för alla snälla kommentarer i inlägget nedan! Självförtroendet behöver alltid en sån där boost man får med beröm! Jag skulle ju vilja ha den röda hatten klar till den 8:de mars…Jag funderar på att den borde bäras första gången på internationella kvinnodagen nämligen. Dels för den röda färgen dels för att den verkligen är en kvinnohatt vilket representerar min syn på feminism, nämligen att jag som kvinna ska leva ut min kvinnlighet och vara mig själv och samtidigt vara jämnställd (fast i högklackat och med rött läppstift).

Kanske har mina åsikter växt fram nån gång framför tv:n på 90-talet—

I just want to thank everyone who commented on the blog post below. It’s never wrong with some compliments! I feel like a purring cat and my self esteem climbed a notch higher. I would like to have the hat finished to wear on the 8:th of March which is the international women’s day. I am particularly thinking that the colour is so red and bright, for me this colour represents female power. Also this hat is purely a woman’s hat with the model and the decorations and this to me represents my view of feminism. -That I as a woman , should be able to be myself and wear high heels and red lipstick, if I want to. And at the same time be as equal as anyone.

(In Sweden there have been a general feminist opinion, that a true feminist woman should not “objectify” herself, and should not make herself pretty with high heels and makeup and wear traditional women’s clothes)

I definitely don’t share this way of looking at the differences between man and woman

FREEDOM!- Freedom from such limiting old beliefs…

Maybe my way of looking at women and equality comes from growing up with this kind of music and videos.

Jag hade exakt samma bh (eller torselette) från HM som Isabella Scoruppco i den sista videon! Den var så ultra söt! Kuporna var något för stora så jag hade sånna dära kuddar som man fyllde ut med.Jag gillade den där Brigitte Bardot stilen redan då.

The last video “shame shame shame” with Isabella Scoruppco made me buy that very same red and white checkered bralett from H&M. (You can’t see the red and white in the video because it’s in black and white) The cups were to big for my tiny teenage chest so I had to wear cupfillers…. I liked the 50’s and the Brigitte Bardot-amazon-woman-look then already..

Here  are some pictures of the hat that I made this weekend. Still not finished but well on the way. I am so amazed that it turned out so nice! Never mind my unglamorous hair and makeup styling ( Your allowed to look tired after a day of sewing and pricking your fingers on needles) I have the outer edge left to cover and I am still in the process of choosing the right decoration.

Oki kolla in min nya hatt som fortfarande inte är färdig men som är väl på väg. Jag har fortfarande en hel del sömnad att göra  bland annat med kantband och ett stödband som ska sitta i nacken. Jag funderar också på att montera in något chict prickigt foder bara för syns skull, för glädjen att se det. Dekorationen ( rosetten) är bara en tanke.. Inget är bestämt än! Jag vill ha lite mer dekorationer men jag tänker fixa lite temporära dekoratoner och sedan åka tillbaka till kersin på Hatteljén och kanske inhandla lite flor, fjädrar och annat kul!

Såklart blev jag så exalterad över kursen och möjligheterna som öppnats med dessa nya kunskaper och kännedom om material och metoder.. Jag surfade in på E bay meddesamma när jag kom hem och jag måste bara visa er framsidan på ett par böcker från 50 talet….

When I got home from the millinery class I was so exited about all the new things I’d learned. Of couse I googled on millinery and ended up on ebay, no surprice ;). I found these two books from the 50s that caught my eye. Put the colour of the first one and the model of the hat on the other cover and you almoste end up with the one I made!

Japp nu är jag hemma igen. Denna dag har jag sysselsatt mig med en otroligt underbar hattkurs på

Hatteljén, som är samma hattkurs som Ung Farbror har gått.

Så underbart att få pilla på de fina kaplinerna och kornetterna!! Det kliar i hela mig av iver att få göra 100-tals hattar. Jag har ett helt kollegieblock fullt med skisser och små pappersutklipp. Att vara tillsammans med Kerstin på Hatteljén och de andra eleverna har gjort så att tiden bara flög iväg idag.  Det har varit skönt och avkopplande för min hjärna eftersom jag hela tiden varit sysselsatt och koncentrerad på hattskapandet och inte kommit in på några sorgsan tankar. Jag är fortfarande lite skavig i händerna efter allt klappande och gnuggande och dragande i filten. Och mina händer ser ut som om jag plockat jordgubbar hela dagen, de blev lite infärgade av filten som var röd som den rödaste ros.

Den första hatt jag kommer att forma, kommer bli en snyggare variant på den här modellen nedan.

Imorgon ska jag sy ihop det hela så får vi se vad det blir av det. En coif startades också, men den får ni inte vet någonting om alls. Patience!

Today I have been to a wonderful hat-making introduction course at a place called Hatteljén. This day, fun and hard working as it has been- has been  a  blessing. I have not thought of anything else besides hats, coifs, fascinators, decorations..

-AAhh the possibilities!!! One goes nearly crazy choosing from all the different hatblocks and  luxurious felt fabrics. Grandma has been with me but in the way that I know she would be so immensely proud that I finally get to reach out and touch my dream. I have actually been so busy chattering with the other hat making students and the nice teacher that I didn’t have more than 3 seconds to take some photographs at the end. The photos turned out rather out of focus and the angle wasn’t the best either, so the pictures of my first hat will b published tomorrow instead. I don’t really know how it will turn out in the end but I imagine that it will look a little bit like the hat on the black and white picture above. I am aiming for that one…but if it turns out more like a ladylike mix between a mini-tophat and a kirbyhat that wont be so bad either.

Although mine will be slightly tilted and the part that rests on top of the head is a bit wider and I made the brim asymmetrical . The felt is of a fine quality and it is bright red, red as a rose in full bloom, chosen to match with my beautiful red spring coat. Or just a black pencilskirt suit. Tomorrow I will sew it all together and start the decorating… Oh! I also started on a coif- or a halfhat, some call it. But I wont tell you anything more about that one, it’ll be a surprise tomorrow.
